If your wig is made from 100% single donor human hair. It can last a lifetime…If you take care of it.
Did you ever wonder why it doesn’t hurt to get your hair cut? Once the hair follicles grow from your scalp they are no longer connected to a blood supply. The follicles rely on the nourishment that you provide during your hair routine.
New hair growth can come from a better diet, exercise, and healthy habits.
Long hair doesn’t receive nourishment from your body.
Long hair relies on your grooming habits.
You have a big advantage when washing your wig. You can do things that you would not want to do with the natural hair attached to your scalp.
Step 1
The human scalp is the thinnest membrane on the human body. Because of this, your scalp is very sensitive to water temperature. But we are washing your wig, not your scalp.
If you are washing an AdeKerr wig...Get your water hot instead of just warm. This will help the cuticles of the hair expand. With the cuticles open you will clean out all of the excess build up in the hair.
If your wig is not from AdeKerr it is best to use warm water.
Step 2
Apply a hydrating repair shampoo like. L'ORÉAL PROFESSIONNEL ABSOLUT REPAIR INSTANT RESURFACING HYDRATING SHAMPOO
This shampoo will cleanse the hair strands & restructure any damaged hair. This shampoo will make your wig lighter and more manageable. Apply the shampoo until it begins to foam.
Step 3
This is a controversial step...If you purchased your wig somewhere else, skip this step.
If you have purchased your wig here at a AdeKerr...Get a paddle brush like the SHASH Wooden Paddle Brush
Hold the wig by the lace with your thumb along your parting space. Start brushing at the bottom of the wig. Use short downward strokes. Make your brush strokes longer until you reach the lace. Do not brush the lace.
100% of the hair used in our wigs is single donor human hair. AdeKerr Hair does not tangle. Everything that can be done with natural hair can be done with our wigs. It is perfectly fine for you to brush our hair wet.
Most manufacturers advise against brushing a wet wig because they are not selling 100% single donor hair wigs. When you brush other wigs wet they can become a knotted mess.
Step 4
Again…Get your water as hot as possible and rinse your wig. You want to rinse until all the shampoo is completely out. I.E. No bubbles
Step 5
While your wig is still warm apply L'ORÉAL PROFESSIONNEL ABSOLUT REPAIR INSTANT RESURFACING HYDRATING CONDITIONER.
This conditioner nourishes the hair cuticles while leaving them light to touch. Your hair will be smoother, shinier, and more resilient. This conditioner repairs damaged hair cuticles
NOTE It is important to apply the conditioner while the wig is warm. Hot water opens the hair follicles. Applying conditioner while your wig is warm gets the conditioner deep into the hair.
Step 6
This step is for AdeKerr Hair only…Get your paddle brush. Hold the wig by the lace with your thumb along your parting space. Start brushing at the bottom of the wig. Use short downward strokes. Make your brush strokes longer until you reach the lace. This time you can brush the lace backward over the space where the lace ends and your bundles begin. Be careful.
Step 7
Let the conditioner set in for 30 minutes. Let the hair cuticles to absorb the nutrients provided by the conditioner.
Step 8
Rinse your wig with cold water. Why cold water? Cold water will cause the cuticles of the hair to close. This will lock in the nutrients from the conditioner. It will also leave your wig feeling light, smooth and lustrous.
Step 9
Dry your wig and style. We recommend allowing your wig to air dry overnight before styling.
